New York Begins on Friday

New York, New York

The first chapter of this game will take place in New York City, and as such, it is important to know what sort of relationship your characters have with that storied place. New York of the 1920's isn't yet the capitol of the world, being overshadowed by london, but it is growing towards that. Be thinking about what sorts of people you might know there, and experiences you've had there previously so that we can begin to flesh out what contacts you might have.

Things to consider:
  • Have you ever worked with the police?
  • Do you know any of the resident academics?
  • Have ever spent a considerable amount of time there, or possibly lived there? Do you live there now? (The events in Boston need not have just concluded) If so, what has occupied your time there, and who did you spend it with?
  • Anything else that fleshes out your character and allows us all to understand their place in the world. Examples: Do you drink? This game takes place during prohibition, so where you get your alcohol has a real bearing on things. Do you smoke, how much, what? Are you fashionable, or shabby, trendy or old fashioned? How do you view the opposite sex? What are your views on people of races other than your own. The civil rights movement hasn't happened yet, so open racism is common and expected even in Manhattan.
  • Also, consider the occult. While this has nothing specific to do with New York, you need to be really concrete about your character's relationship to it. Also, it bears mentioning that someone who is repelled by things occult ought not to be a character in this campaign, or any CoC game really.
